Heater FAQs

Q: What is the difference between the Vornado VH2 and DVTH?

A: The primary difference is in the type of controls the units use: Vortex Heater vs. Digital Vortex Heater. The Model VH2 has a bi-metal thermostat and a “plus-to-minus” temperature control dial. The thermostat will cycle the unit on and off as it reaches the point of heat selected. The Model DVTH features a Thermistor, a sophisticated sensor that allows the unit to self-adjust the heat output to maintain the desired temperature. You select the temperature using the calibrated temperature control dial on the top of the unit. The DVTH maintains a constant room temperature and eliminates annoying hot and cold cycles. The Thermistor allows the DVTH to only use a minimum amount of energy.

Q: How large of an area can I keep warm with my Vornado Heater?

A: While it’s very difficult to quote a particular room size, a Vornado Vortex Heater will effectively warm just about any room in an average home. (Be advised that VortexHeat is not recommended for use in bathrooms or similar wet environments.) Since they also circulate the air, Vornado VortexHeat Heaters are more “comfort-efficient” than other comparably sized space heaters.

Q: I work in a cold office. Is it safe to put my Vornado Heater under my desk?

A: It’s OK to run your Vornado Heater under a desk as long as you don’t block the airflow. In the event the airflow is blocked, the Over-Temp safety feature will shut off the unit’s heating element. Try the Vornado SoleAire. It was specifically designed to fit under a desk.

Q: How much energy does a Vornado VortexHeat Heater consume?

A: On the “Low” setting, the VH2 maximum is 770 watts, drawing 6.7 amps. On the highest setting, Vornado VortexHeat Heaters use a maximum 1500 watts of electricity, drawing 13 amps. Assuming an average cost of .10/kilowatt hour of electricity, VortexHeat or any other 1500W electric heater will cost around .15/hour of operation.

Q: We have young children running around our house. Is it safe to use the unit around them?

A: Like toasters, irons and hair dryers, electric heaters are high wattage appliances. Never leave a child or incapacitated person alone around any heater. While there may be no such thing as an absolute “Child-Safe” or “Child-Proof” heater or electrical appliance, Vornado VortexHeat Heaters feature multiple advanced safety features including a “cool-to-the-touch” exterior cabinet, overheat protection and tip-over protection. In fact, the Vornado VH2 was just rated TOP SAFETY PICK by the Good Housekeeping Researching Institute!

Q: If your products are as good as you say, how will a Vornado you might introduce 10 years from now be any better than the one I have today?

A:Although the design principle used in our products is the same as it was 60 years ago when the O. A. Sutton Corporation made the first VornadoFans, our research and development efforts never cease and we believe there is always room for improvement. Products developed over the next ten years are likely to include higher efficiency, advances in safety, and more intuitive control interfaces as seen in the Vornado iControl Heater.
