The Vornado Edge Air Circulator is designed to focus a powerful beam of air either horizontally across the room or vertically towards the ceiling. Shopping Experience: Bought this about six months ago. Works quiet and keeps you cool if its aimed right at you. I'm not sold on the whole-room air circulation though. There's one running now in my room, I'm sweating wet, and I still can't feel a current. Anyway, it died yesterday. This is the second one to go, except the first one had a long, slow, loud death. This one just died instantly, I think the motor failed.
Well, seeing as Vornado has all but monopolized the fan market in Hawaii, I might consider a new one, different model, and hopefully one that includes the fan stand that elevates it off the ground. Huge problem with dust, and perhaps that's also another cause of dying Vornado fans and fans in general to be fair. But, having had trouble with two of them already, out of three, I can't really recommend these fans to anyone.
I'm also considering applying some type of home made dust filter to my last surviving Vornado fan( pantyhose or do-rag anyone?), and the makers of Vornado might also try something similar.
In all, this fan works fine when it works. I will give it the benefit of the doubt, that if you live in a dusty place, you will need to do maintenance on your fan. However, this particular fan could only take it for about six months, and Vornado doesn't really supply anything, such as a filter, that would solve the problem. Buy this fan and see how many hours you can get out of it for yourself. I got probably a couple of thousand because we left it on whether or not we were in the house. If you leave it on only when you're at home, it might last you a couple a years, good luck.
